Step 1 move the hardboard panels into the installation room and lean them up against the wall with the backs facing outward toward the room.
How to install hardboard wall panel.
The first step in how to install paneling is to remove all wall plates outlets and any nails in the wall.
Install vertical strips of wood every 16 inches on top of the wall studs and attach with masonry screws.
If your plan is to install in thick plywood or hardboard panels or thin composite 3 d decorative panels that will be nailed and or glued in place you must start with a flat solid base wall finish like drywall or plaster.
For best results set the paneling in the room for a few days before you install it.
Mark the location of each wall stud on the ceiling and floor using a pencil so that you can see the marks once.
Place the panel on the wall and press it into the adhesive.
Check the wall for bulges and correct them structurally if necessary.
Push the panel back on the wall and roll the panel with a rolling pin.
Press the panel firmly onto the wall and add nails at approximately 12 intervals to hold it in place while the adhesive dries.
Untape the sheet and cut out the traced areas.
Replace wall floor and window moldings rewire the electrical fixtures and reinstall them in their boxes.
Install the hardboard panels on top of the wood furring strips.
Load a caulking gun with a tube of panel adhesive and apply a small dab of it on the wall about every 10 inches.
Slide a stud finder along the wall where you intend to install the hardboard panels.
Leave the panels in this location for a minimum of 48 hours before installation to allow them to acclimate.
Gently remove any crown moulding baseboards and trim you plan on using again.
On the back of each panel place a 1 4 bead of adhesive about 1 from the edges of the panel.
Trace the outline of each obstruction with a pencil.
To install hardboard over masonry attach long wooden strips along the base and top of the wall using masonry screws.
Pull the panel away from the wall and let the adhesive become tacky.
